Description

Skinny Top Heavy Bottom Slinkys exist for guitarists who don’t want to choose between shred-friendly top strings and a low end that actually punches. Ernie Ball built this set as a hybrid: the high strings stay thin and fast for solos and bends, while the wound strings step up in gauge to give riffs and rhythm parts real weight.

Every wound string is nickel-plated steel wire wrapped around a hex-shaped steel core, a combo that’s stayed a rock and metal staple because it delivers bright attack up front that settles into a warm, full sustain — and it holds tuning stability well through aggressive playing. The plain strings are specially tempered, tin-plated high carbon steel, keeping the top end balanced instead of thin or brittle against those heavier wound strings.

If you’ve ever felt your regular set go dull under palm mutes or lose clarity on single-note runs, this gauge spread is the fix. Fresh out of the pack, the tonal difference is immediate — tighter low strings, snappier top strings, and none of that dead, muted feel strings get after weeks of sweat and string.

  • Gauges: .010 .013 .017 .030 .042 .052
