Description
If your fingers are tired of squeaking across roundwounds, ECB81-5 is the reset button. D’Addario built these Chromes with flattened stainless steel ribbon wire, then polished it down to a glass-smooth surface. The result is a flatwound set that glides under your hand instead of fighting it, while still pushing out that deep, damped tone flatwounds are famous for.
This is the 5-string edition of D’Addario’s best-selling flatwound bass line, rounded out with a .132 low B that stays tight and defined instead of flubby. That low string is where these strings really earn their keep—jazz, R&B, and pop players lean on Chromes for a bottom end that’s rich without turning muddy.
Gauges run .045, .065, .080, .100, .132, and the set is built for long-scale basses up to 36 1/4 inches, so check your scale length before ordering. Every string is made in the U.S.A. on D’Addario’s digitally controlled machinery, which is why set after set feels and sounds the same—no surprises when you’re restringing before a gig.
