Description
If you love the growl of round wounds but your fingers are tired of the roughness, ENR71 is the compromise you’ve been chasing. D’Addario starts each string as a pure nickel round wound, then precision-grinds the outer wrap so it sits smooth and semi-flat under your hand. You still get the flex and snap of a round wound core, minus the fret-chewing texture.
The trick is D’Addario’s heat-treating process, which locks in extra brightness after that grinding stage. So instead of the grinding process muting the tone, these come out punchy and alive, with the kind of sustain you’d expect from a fresh round wound set rather than a flat.
This particular set covers a classic 45-100 gauge spread, built for long scale basses with up to a 36 1/4 inch scale length. Made in the U.S.A. on D’Addario’s digitally controlled machinery, so every set you pull off the shelf plays and feels the same as the last—no surprises when you’re restringing before a gig.
