EJ13 is D’Addario’s own hybrid gauge answer to the age-old “light vs. medium” tug-of-war. You get the punch and low-end depth of a light gauge set on the wound strings, but the plain steel top end is dialed back just enough to make bending and fretting feel effortless. The alloy here is 80/20 bronze — often just called brass — the same formula John D’Addario Sr. and John D’Angelico settled on back in the 1930s. That crispness fades a touch faster than phosphor bronze, but that first-week sparkle is exactly why players keep a fresh set in the case.
