Description
Some 5-string sets feel like an afterthought — thin highs bolted onto a low B that flops around with no definition. The EXL165-5 fixes that by borrowing the best of two proven sets: the snappy .045 and .060 highs from the EXL170, and the .085 and .105 lows from the EXL160, then rounding it out with a .135 Low B built to stay tight and articulate instead of boomy and vague.
Every string is round wound with nickel-plated steel wrap wire on D’Addario’s digitally controlled winding machines, so intonation stays locked in and the fundamental note comes through clean, not smeared. The result is that bright, cutting XL tone bassists have relied on for decades, now tuned for the demands of a fiver — comfortable tension across all five strings, clear low-end punch, and enough top-end sparkle to slice through a mix.
Fits long scale basses up to 36 1/4 inches, and every string is manufactured in the U.S.A. with corrosion-resistant packaging so the set you open plays as good as the last one you loved.
