Description
Seven strings, one job: give the low end real weight without turning the fretboard into concrete. NYXL1164 is D’Addario’s medium set for 7-string electrics, gauged .011 .014 .018 .028 .038 .049 .064 and built for 25.5″ scale guitars. That extra .064 low string carries serious low-end punch while the plain steels keep enough give for expressive bends up top.
Under the hood, D’Addario reworked the whole process in their New York facility. A high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy resist breakage far better than standard string material, so you can dig in without babysitting your set. The plain strings go through a “fusion twist” process, and the wound strings use a reformulated nickel plating with stronger magnetic output — translating to a hotter, more present signal and up to 131% better tuning stability than regular nickel-wound strings.
Players will notice the difference most in the midrange: NYXL windings push extra output in the 1–3.5 kHz range, so riffs and chords cut through a dense mix instead of getting buried. Combine that with faster tuning settle-in and you spend less time retuning and more time actually playing.
- New York-made high-carbon steel alloy core for exceptional break resistance
- Fusion twist plain steels + reformulated nickel windings for stronger output
- Enhanced 1–3.5 kHz presence for extra crunch and cut
- Gauges: .011 .014 .018 .028 .038 .049 .064 — optimized for 25.5″ scale
- Corrosion-resistant packaging keeps strings fresh until you’re ready to install
If your 7-string has been sitting on dull, dead strings, this set brings back the snap, sustain, and low-end thump you plugged in for in the first place.
