Drop tunings are only as good as the strings holding them together, and this is where a lot of sets fall apart — literally. DR built the Drop Down Tuning series with Accurate Core Technology™ (ACT™) specifically to stop that wobble. The hexagonal core wire gets reinforced along its entire length, filling in the tiny imperfections that normally rob a string of intonation accuracy and long-term stability.
What that means at the bridge: you drop the tuning, and the string just sits there in pitch. No fighting it back into tune every few songs, no dead spots creeping in as you push the low end. Players who’ve tuned down with these describe the lock-in as almost unsettling — in a good way. It’s the kind of stability you only get from two years of dedicated build-and-test work, not a quick gauge-up of a standard set.
These are Extra Heavy gauge (65, 85, 105, 125), stainless steel over hex core, ball end, made for a 37 3/4″ scale. If your bass lives in dropped territory — B standard, drop D, or lower — this is the gauge and construction meant to handle it without turning to mush.
