Description
If you’re chasing that old-school upright growl without ditching your electric bass, ETB92 is the set to reach for. D’Addario wraps each string in flattened black nylon, then polishes it down to a glassy, silky-smooth surface — no fret buzz, no finger squeak, just a deep, rounded voice that sits somewhere between a flatwound’s focus and a true upright’s thump.
These are long scale strings (fits up to 36 1/4″ scale length), gauged .050-.065-.085-.105, and built for reliable tension so they seat properly on standard bass nuts and saddles without fighting your setup. Fretted or fretless, they behave — fretless players especially will appreciate how gentle the tapewound surface is on the fingerboard compared to roundwounds.
Tapewounds are a different animal from your usual roundwound rotation: they last a long time, break in mellow and stay mellow, and reward players who want a vintage, thumpy low end rather than bright zing. Swap a dead set of roundwounds for these and the whole character of your bass changes — warmer, rounder, more woody.
